Manastash Ridge Radar Observes Northern Washington Fireworks Display!

Ionospheric Radar Unlocks True Doppler Characteristics of Whiz-Bang July 4th Treat

Seattle, WA-- While most of us were out enjoying the sunshine and festivities this past Independence Day, the radar run by the University of Washington's Radar Remote Sensing Laboratory was hard at work. Normally intended to observe ionospheric pressure waves, the experimental tool often provides insight into other areas of science as well. This time, the researchers have captured an extraordinary observation of a fireworks display over Washington state:

"Gee our radar works nice!" quotes project leader Sahr. Yes, indeed. :-)
